Hyundai Mobis Co., South Korea’s biggest auto parts manufacturer, said Monday that it has kicked off production of conventional braking systems at its plant in Slovakia.

Hyundai Mobis, an auto parts arm of Hyundai Motor Group, spent 50 billion won ($46.6 million) to complete the line to produce the braking system components at its Slovakia plant located in the northern region of Zilina.

The new production line will have an annual production capacity of 600,000 conventional braking system components, which are used to slow down or stop the vehicle, said the company.

It will cover all parts of the production process, including manufacturing and assembling all components like calipers, drum brakes, and brake boosters and master kits.

Hyundai Mobis has run the Slovakia plant since 2006. At the plant, the company assembles auto parts manufactured in South Korea and provides them to European plants of its carmaking affiliates, Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Motors Corp.

“We’ve completed the local production system and it will help us reduce logistics costs and deal with European market conditions more quickly,” said an official from Hyundai Mobis. (Yonhap News)
