Police said Sunday that they have failed to find evidence of alleged anti-opposition online comments by a female agent of the National Intelligence Service (NIS), who has come under fire over allegations that she repeatedly made negative comments in cyberspace about main opposition presidential candidate Moon Jae-in over the past three months from her home in southern Seoul to influence the race.

The police investigation began at the request of Moon's Democratic United Party (DUP) and the NIS agent recently presented her personal and notebook computers to the police.

With the presidential election set for Wednesday, the allegation had emerged as a major campaign issue.

Winding up an intensive investigation, police said they failed to find any online postings or comments by the 28-year-old agent about Moon.

On Saturday, the intelligence agent, accompanied by her lawyer, underwent four hours of questioning at the Suseo Police Station in southern Seoul.

After the questioning, the agent claimed innocence, saying, "I am falsely accused. I have not put anything online slandering Moon."

"It is regrettable that they are trying to drag me and the NIS, which has remained neutral, into the election," she told reporters as she left the police station.

The DUP, which raised the allegations in the first place, accused the NIS of interfering with the election by posting slanderous comments on the Internet about the liberal contender.

The NIS has denied the allegations, voicing "strong regret" over what it said was "malicious propaganda" against it and warning that it may take legal action. (Yonhap News)

경찰, 국정원 女직원 컴퓨터 조사하더니...


경찰은 문재인 민주통합당 대선후보를 비방하는 댓글을 올렸다는 의혹이 제기된 국가정보원 여직원 김모(28)씨의 개인 컴퓨터 등을 분석한 결과 문 후보에 대한 비방•지지 게시글이나 댓글을 게재한 사실을 발견하지 못했다고 16일 밝혔다.

경찰은 지난 10월부터 지난 13일까지 김씨의 컴퓨터 2대(데스크톱•노트북)에서 삭제된 파일은 물론 인터넷 접속기록 및 문서 파일 등에 대해 정밀 분석했으나 관련 게시물이나 댓글을 찾지 못했다고 설명했다.

김씨는 지난 13일 개인 데스크톱 컴퓨터 1대와 노트북 1대를 경찰에 제출했다.

당시 김씨는 '문재인•박근혜 대선후보에 대한 비방•지지글과 관련된 전자정보'에 한하여 컴퓨터 등을 임의제출하는데 동의했다.

그러나 휴대전화와 이동식 저장장치에 대한 제출 요청에는 응하지 않았다.

경찰은 데스크톱 하드디스크에 대한 이미징 작업은 마쳤으나 노트북에 걸린 보안시스템 때문에 분석 작업을 못하다 다음날인 14일 오전 국정원의 협조를 받아  노트북 보안시스템을 해제하고 김씨의 변호사와 선관위 직원 등이 보는 앞에서 하드디 스크의 원본과 사본의 해시값(요약함수)이 같다는 것을 확인한뒤 그날 오후 7시20분 께부터 본격적인 분석작업에 들어갔다.

경찰청 사이버테러대응센터 및 서울지방경찰청 사이버수사대의 전문 증거분석관 10명을 투입됐으며 경찰은 3일 만인 16일 오후 9시15분께 모든 작업을 마쳤다.

경찰은 디지털 증거분석 전용 장비와 프로그램을 활용해 수십 개의 검색어로 검색, 정밀 분석했지만 관련 게재 글은 끝내 발견하지 못했다.

이 사건을 수사 중인 서울 수서경찰서는 서울지방경찰청으로부터 회신받은 디지털 증거분석 결과와 확보된 자료, 사건 관계인의 진술 등을 토대로 계속 수사할 방침이다.

경찰 관계자는 "현장 CCTV 확인, 주변 탐문, 통신자료 제공요청 등 다각도의 수 사를 진행하고 있지만 현재까지 혐의를 입증할 만한 특이점을 찾지 못한 상태"라고 전했다.

앞서 민주당 일부 당직자들은 지난 11일 국정원 직원인 김씨가 문 후보에 대한 '비방 댓글'을 올렸다는 의혹을 제기, 김씨가 거주하는 강남구 오피스텔에 제보자와 선관위 직원 등을 대동하고 찾아갔고 신고를 받은 경찰도 출동했다.

밤샘 대치 끝에 김씨는 국정원 직원이라는 사실은 시인했으나 관련 댓글을 올린 적이 없다고 밝혔으며 이틀 뒤인 13일 민주당 관계자를 감금•주거침입 혐의로 경찰에 고발했다.
