Lee Jung-hee of the minor opposition United Progressive Party quit the presidential race on Sunday.

It has been speculated for sometime that the minor candidate with less than 1 percent approval rating would forfeit before the ballots are cast on Wednesday so as not to spilt the liberal and progressive vote.

During televised presidential debates, Lee had implied that she was concerned with putting the Saenuri Party’s Park Geun-hye down than she was with promoting her own presidential bid.

With Lee bowing out of the race, the final televised debate between the presidential candidates Sunday will be conducted between Park and the Democratic United Party’s Moon Jae-in.

이정희, 대선 후보직 사퇴..TV토론 불참


 통합진보당 이정희 대선후보는 16일 후보직을 사퇴하고 이날 저녁 예정된 대선후보 3차 TV토론에 불참하기로 했다.

    이 후보는 이날 오후 2시 국회 정론관에서 기자회견을 갖고 이 같은 의사를  밝 힐 계획이다.

    이 후보 측 관계자는 "오후 1시께 긴급 선대위회의를 열어 사퇴를 결정했다"고 말했다.

    이 후보는 그동안 TV토론을 통해 "새누리당 박근혜 후보를 떨어뜨리기 위해  출 마했다"고 언급하는 등 사퇴 가능성을 시사해왔다.

    이에 따라 이날 저녁 TV토론은 박 후보와 민주통합당 문재인 후보 간 양자토론 형태로 진행될 것으로 보인다.
