Online cartoons depicting Democratic United Party presidential candidate Moon Jae-in and former presidential candidate Ahn Cheol-soo as gay lovers are causing controversy.

Internet cartoonist Choi Ji-ryong recently uploaded around 40 drawings depicting Moon and Ahn, as well as other prominent opposition figures.

In one of the cartoons, comically-portrayed versions of Moon and Ahn are having sex in what appears to be a room salon, a type of Korean establishment that often facilitates prostitution. A waiter urges the two men to leave, saying, “Sometimes when you are not successful (in sexual activity), you just can’t get it done.”

In another picture, Moon is depicted as a tramp that grovels at the feet of a wealthy woman with the face of Ahn flinging money at him in a scornful way.

Internet users expressed disgust with the cartoons, some describing them as an “absurd defamation of Moon and Ahn” and “clear sexual harassment.” Others said they were “degrading homosexuality.”

Korea’s National Election Commission said Choi’s drawing slandered the DUP candidate and have filed a complaint with the prosecution.

Prosecutors will also investigate a recent work by painter Hong Sung-dam, the state-run election board said. In Hong’s drawing, a woman resembling Saenuri Party presidential candidate Park Geun-hye gives birth to a baby reminiscent of Park’s late father, former dictator President Park Chung-hee.

Hong’s drawing drew heavy criticism from the ruling party.

문재인-안철수 풍자만화, 비난 폭발

문재인 민주통합당 대선후보와 안철수 전 무소속 후보를 악의적으로 묘사한 풍자 만화가 논란을 일으키고 있다.

보수 성향의 인터넷 풍자 만화가 최지룡 (40)은 최근 자신의 블로그에 두 후보와 다른 야권 인사들을 희화화하는 그림들을 올렸다.

이 그림들 중 다수에는 우스꽝스럽게 표현된 두 후보가 동성애를 하는 장면이 나오는가 하면, 부랑자처럼 표현된 문 후보가 자신에게 돈을 던지는 부유한 여성에게 굽신거리는 장면도 포함되어 있다.

네티즌, 특히 야권성향의 시민들은 이 그림들에 대해 “두 후보에 대한 역겨운 네거티브 공작,” “분명한 성적 조롱,”이라며 크게 반발하고 있다.

중앙선거관리위원회는 5일 이 그림들이 문 후보를 비방했다고 판단, 해당 만화를 삭제조치하고 최 씨를 검찰에 수사 의뢰했다. 또한 선관위는 지난달 새누리당 박근혜 대선 후보가 아버지인 故박정희 전 대통령을 출산하는 그림을 그린 홍성담 화백 역시 검찰에 수사의뢰했다.
