Scooter Braun, the U.S. manager for Korean pop sensation Psy, will receive an award from the Korean government for his contribution to making Psy into a global phenomenon, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said on Monday.

Braun was chosen as “Man of the Year” for the DARI Award 2012, which is given to people who have bridged the U.S. and Korea through culture by the Korean Cultural Center of Los Angeles and the Korea Culture and Content Agency. Braun is said to have confirmed his attendance at the award ceremony at the LA Korea Center on Wednesday evening.

“Braun is behind Psy’s phenomenal success ― attracting more than 800 million YouTube views for his music video of ‘Gangnam Style,’ appearing on major TV programs in the U.S. and trotting around the globe,” said a ministry official.

“If it hadn’t been for Braun, Psy wouldn’t have made it this far. And Psy has contributed to promote the national brand,” she added.

Alongside Braun, Hulu, a website offering on-demand and streaming of TV shows and movies, was named a recipient of the DARI Award for providing a wide range of Korean TV dramas in the U.S. Hulu is not available in Korea.

Additionally, YG Entertainment America will be awarded for its promotion of Korean artists including Psy, Big Bang and 2NE1.
