Executive Vice President Jo Seong-jin, head of the washing machine department, was promoted to vice president. Jo joined LG shortly after graduating from high school and has been with the company for more than three decades. His continued efforts for technology innovation helped put LG washing machines at the top of the industry, company officials said.

Executive Vice President Shin Moon-bum, who had spearheaded LG’s strong performance in the home appliance unit in the Indian markets, was named president and will be leading the Chinese operations.

Also from the home entertainment unit, Jim Clayton who had handled operations for supporting new areas of business was promoted to vice president from senior vice president.

Executives in the mobile communications department including the unit chief Park Jong-seok, remained largely unchanged.

LG Electronics is widely known as the latecomer in the smartphone market, but has recently been staging a comeback with models such as the Optimus G and the Nexus 4.

In the third quarter of this year, the company posted an operating profit of 21.5 billion won on the back of a 10 percent on-quarter increase in mobile handset sales. Sales also rose 5 percent from the previous quarter to 2.44 trillion won.

LG plans to carry out reshufflings in other affiliates today.
