KOTRA invites foreigners to ‘get to know Korea’

Invest Korea, a unit under the state-run Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, held an event on Sunday to introduce Korea’s traditional culture to foreign investors and diplomats here.

At the event titled “Get to Know Korea,” over 90 foreign investors, diplomats, press correspondents and their families including Canadian ambassador to Korea David Chatterson and Fuji Xerox Korea CEO Yasuaki Ueno enjoyed the Korean traditional musical performance “Miso” at Chongdong Theater in central Seoul.

“Miso,” meaning “beautiful smile,” offers a compact presentation of 10 different kinds of traditional dances, five traditional games and a wedding ritual based on a well-known folktale, “The Tale of Chunhyang.”

The one-day event also included a lesson on “janggu,” the Korean traditional drum, and an opportunity to dress up in royal “hanbok,” Korean traditional dress.

Invest Korea has been holding the event since 2008, including various activities such as making kimchi, trying makgeolli rice wine and making pottery.

“The event was a great opportunity to show that Korea is not only an attractive country to do business but also has an excellent living environment,” said Shin Nam-sik, head of Invest Korea’s Investment Planning Department.
