A local woman in her thirties, who had believed her husband was an educated and wealthy person, found out that the man was actually a bankrupt criminal. After the woman’s lawsuit against the man for fraud, the court has annulled the marriage and ordered the man to pay her 117 million won ($100,000) in compensation.

The couple met at a club in May 2010. The man introduced himself a decent man with a degree from a prestigious school, all prepared for a marriage with an apartment on the lease. They got married in October 2011.

There had been no problem until the husband suddenly called his wife while away from home in January and said he was heading to Japan for a business trip. The next day, the woman found her husband’s passport at home and she became suspicious.

She was told by her brother-in-law that everything her husband had said was a lie. The husband was actually under court custody, having been charged with insurance fraud, at the time of his "business trip." In March, he was sentenced to a year in prison with two years of probation.

The Seoul Family Court concluded the woman could annul the marriage. The court also asked the man to pay 50 million won to the woman for inflicting mental harm and another 67 million won as compensation for loss of property.

서울가정법원은 A씨의 요청대로 혼인을 취소했다. 또한 남편 B씨에게 정신적 고통에 따른 위자료 5천만 원과 각종 보유동산에 대해 6천 7백만 원을 A씨에게 보상할 것을 판결했다. (코리아헤럴드)
