A school girl, who was stressed over dating issues, threw herself from a building in an apparent suicide attempt, but survived with only minor injuries after a policeman caught her.

Suwon Nambu Police Station said it received an emergency call from a 16-year-old girl saying she was about to kill herself at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. “I had a fight with my boyfriend. I’m going to fall to my death so contact him when I die,” the unnamed girl said.

After tracing the call, police found the girl standing on a rooftop of a four-story building near her boyfriend’s home in Seryu-dong, Suwon, Gyeonggi Province. The girl jumped from the building when her boyfriend approached her, but was caught by Constable Choi Dae-hoon.

The girl wounded her pelvis and leg and the 33-year-old officer sustained an injury to his arm but neither was seriously hurt.

“I was mildly injured but I am proud to have saved a life,” Choi said. “Any other policeman would have done the same thing.”

Police said the girl had frequently fought with her boyfriend and had quarreled with him on the day of the incident. The girl was also reported to be suffering from borderline personality disorder.

옥상서 투신 10대女,경찰이 맨손으로 받아

남자친구 문제로 괴로워하던 10대가 건물 옥상에서 몸을 던졌으나 출동한 경찰관이 두 팔로 받아내 생명을 구했다.

지난 18일 오전 10시30분께 112로 "남자친구와 싸웠다. 떨어져 죽을 테니 내가 죽으면 남자친구에게 연락해달라"는 A(16)양의 신고가 들어왔다.

경찰은 휴대전화 위치추적을 통해 A양이 남자친구 최모(24)씨가 거주하는 수원시 권선구 세류동 인근 빌라 밀집지역에 있는 것으로 확인, 일대를 수색했다.

20여분만에 4층 빌라 옥상 난간에 서 있는 A양을 발견한 경찰은 건물 아래에 대형매트(가로•세로 2m) 2개를 설치했다.

A양은 "다가오면 바로 뛰어내리겠다"며 저항했고 오전 11시10분께 도착한 남자친구가 손을 내밀자 소리를 지르며 아래로 몸을 던졌다.

마침 현장에서 설득하던 최대훈(33) 순경이 빌라 앞 차량 위로 떨어지는 두 팔을 뻗어 A양을 받아냈다.

최 순경의 팔을 거쳐 바닥으로 떨어진 A양은 골반과 다리를 다쳐 인근 대학병원으로 옮겨져 치료를 받고 있다. A양은 최 순경의 몸을 아끼지않은 대응조치로 충격이 상당부분 완화돼 생명에 지장이 없는 것으로 알려졌다.

A양을 팔로 받아낸 최 순경은 오른팔에 깁스해야 했다.

최 순경은 "조금 다쳤지만 목숨을 구해 뿌듯하다"며 "경찰이라면 누구나 똑같이 행동했을 것"이라고 말했다.

경찰은 평소 A양이 남자친구와 자주 다퉜으며 사고 당일 아침에도 말다툼한 것으로 조사됐다고 밝혔다.
