Come Together is a series introducing associations and clubs that expats can get involved in. In this edition Vantharith Oum introduces Cambodian Students’ Association in Korea.

● Name of group: Cambodian Students’ Association in Korea (CSA-Korea)

● Location(s): Seoul, but we plan to expand our network into other regions.

● Number of members: 50-100 people so far, but we don’t have formal membership yet. This is something we plan to start early next year. To our knowledge, there are around 400-500 Cambodian students in Korea nationwide.

● Started: December 2011.

Who is it for? Mainly for students. But our long-term goal is to serve all Cambodian people in Korea, including multicultural families (Cambodian-Korean families) and migrant workers.

What goes on? We are organizing our first ever public event, namely Cambodia-Korea Cultural Friendship Festival 2012, this Saturday at Seoul ENM Church near Anam Station, supported by the Cambodian Embassy and Seoul Metropolitan Government.

The event will include presentations, dances, traditional games and other performances.

Plans for the future? Starting from 2013, we will be more active with regular activities each month, such as Campus tours of each university campus where there are Cambodian students; volunteering activities with the community, including clearing up trash along the Han River and blood donation; Khmer language tutoring; and Cambodian cultural presentations.

How to join: There is no formal registration yet, but everyone is free to join and be part of us. Just “like” our page on Facebook and get relevant updates from time to time.

Are there any membership fees? No.

What is the highlight of the year? We are hoping it will be this year’s Cultural Friendship Festival.
