Professor Park Won-hwa of Korea Aerospace University has been tapped as an arbitrator by the Permanent Court of Arbitration based in The Hague, the Netherlands, the university announced on Monday.

Park, 61, a professor of the department of air and space law at KAU, was recently named among 14 arbitrators for space-related disputes by the international organization, according to the university.

Established in 1899 with an aim of facilitating arbitration and other forms of dispute resolution between countries, the PCA has now over 100 member states.

It currenlty provides services for the resolution of disputes involving various combinations of states, state entities, intergovernmental organizations and private parties.

In December 2011, the PCA adopted the “PCA Optional Rules for the Arbitration of Disputes Relating to Outer Space Activities,” in response to a growing need for specialized dispute resolution in the rapidly evolving field of outer space activities.
