The Asan Nanum Foundation said on Sunday it has launched an internship program for U.N. affiliates by forming a partnership with the United Nations Volunteers, or UNV, headquartered in Bonn, Germany.

The ANF signed a memorandum of understanding with the UNV on Saturday to offer Korean youths an internship program for international organizations under the United Nations. UNV is a U.N. organization that contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide.

Under the agreements with UNV, the foundation will recruit around 10 volunteer interns by early December. UNV will educate those selected and dispatch them to such U.N. affiliates as the U.N. Population Fund, U.N. Development Program and U.N. Environment Program from February next year for one-year term.

The foundation will cover the entire cost to be generated to run the UNV internship program.

The Asan Nanum Foundation was established in 2011 by Hyundai Heavy Industries’ controlling shareholder Chung Mong-joon and the firm’s affiliates to commemorate the late Hyundai Group founder Chung Ju-yung with 600 billion won ($550 million). Ruling Saenuri Party lawmaker Chung Mong-joon is the sixth son of the late Hyundai Group founder.
