Samsung Engineering Co., South Korea’s largest industrial plant builder, said Thursday that it has won a $2.4 billion order to build carbon black and delayed coker units in the United Arab Emirates.

Under the deal with Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Co., the state-run company known as Takreer, on Wednesday, Samsung Engineering will build the units in the refining complex in Ruwais, west of Abu Dhabi, by January 2016.

The units, when completed, can produce 40,000 tons of carbon black per year and 30,000 barrels of crude oil a day, according to Samsung Engineering.

The announcement came four months after Samsung Engineering received a letter of award for the lump-sum turnkey project from Takreer.

The latest deal, which accounts for about 33 percent of Samsung Engineering’s revenue, marked the eighth order from ADNOC, the national oil company of UAE and the parent company of Takreer, in five years, according to Samsung Engineering. (Yonhap News)
