Three young children were showered in heroin during a SWAT team raid on a motel in suburban Buffalo, N.Y., police say.

Police said Indaleccio Rodriguez-Escalera, 22, of Buffalo, who was arrested along with his girlfriend in the Tuesday morning raid at an Economy Inn in Tonawanda, sent the heroin flying while trying to get rid of it, the Tonawanda News reported.

Police said when the SWAT team entered the motel room to execute a search warrant, Rodriguez-Escalera jumped out of bed and threw a handful of heroin around the room, coating his girlfriend‘s children, between the ages of 3 months and 3 years.

He then disobeyed officers’ commands to get down on the floor and began fighting with one officer, the police report stated. He was subdued with the help of another officer, who punched him in the mid-section.

The couple were charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell, endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment.

Rodriguez-Escalera was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail and his girlfriend, Melissa Rosario, also 22 of Buffalo, was released to her parents, the newspaper said.

The officers did not experience any symptoms from heroin exposure. There was no word on the condition of the children, who were taken to a local hospital for evaluation, the newspaper said. (UPI)

미국 뉴욕 주 버펄로 경찰특공대(SWTA)가 인근 한 모텔에 마약밀매단 급습을 하는 과정에서 어린이 세 명이 헤로인을 뒤집어 쓰는 해프닝이 발생했다.

현지 언론인 타나완다 뉴스는 경찰특공대가 마약사범인 인달레시오 로드리게스 에스칼레라(22) 일당을 지난 수요일 오전 인근 모텔에서 체포했다고 보도했다.

경찰에 따르면 특공대가 모텔 방을 급습했을 때 로드리게스 에스칼레라는 깜짝 놀라 헤로인 한 움큼을 집어던졌고, 이를 주변에 있던 애인의 자녀들이 모두 뒤집어 썼다. 이 아이들은 생후 3개월과 세 살인 것으로 알려졌다.

로드리게스 에스칼레라는 이후에도 경찰의 지시에 불복하다 몸싸움 끝에 체포됐다.

체포된 용의자와 그의 애인은 금지된 마약물질의 소지 및 판매를 목적으로 한 약물 소지 등의 혐의와 더불어 아동을 위험에 처하게 한 혐의로 기소됐다.

로드리게스 에스칼레라는 보석금 10만 달러를 지정받고 구금 중이며 아이들의 어머니인 멜리사 로사리오는 석방됐다고 현지 언론이 보도했다.

현장에 있던 경관들은 마약 노출로 인한 징후를 보이지 않은 것으로 확인됐으나 아이들의 건강상태는 정확히 알려지지 않았다. (코리아헤럴드)
