LG Electronics said Sunday that its LTE smartphone sales in Korea topped 3 million units since the firm released its first model in the market in October 2011.
Company officials said its variety in the LTE handset lineup, creative user experience, good quality after service and strong LTE patent portfolio contributed to improved sales on its home ground.
Starting with the Optimus LTE a year earlier, LG has been rolling out models like the 5-inch Optimus Vu and the Optimus LTE 2, which was equipped with the world’s first 2 gigabyte RAM.
The firm also recently launched the Optimus G together with three of its affiliates ― LG Display, LG Chem and LG Innotek ― as well as the Optimus Vu 2.
In a bid to secure its lead in handsets running on the fourth-generation LTE networks, it also announced last week that it would go ahead with the software upgrade to Google’s latest Jelly Bean mobile platform for all smartphones launched in the nation.
All of LG’s smartphones are operating on the Android mobile operating system with the firm maintaining a cautious stance on Microsoft’s Windows OS. The company said earlier that it will focus on the Android mobile platform for now.
“We now plan to strengthen our lead in the Korean LTE market with the recently unveiled Optimus G and Optimus Vu 2,” said LG’s mobile chief Park Jong-seok.
