Full-frame digital imaging technology to offer fresh experience

Sony unveiled on Thursday a new lineup of cameras and a camcorder that features its latest full-frame digital imaging technology.

Aiming to release all three electronic devices within this year, the A99, equipped with translucent mirror technology, will roll out in the local market later this month.

The launch of Sony’s handycam called the NEX-VG900 will follow on Nov. 5 and the compact camera RX1 will also be rolling out this year.

“I’m happy to introduce Sony’s new and innovative products which are equipped with a full-frame image sensor,” said Sony Korea president Sakai Kenji at a press conference in downtown Seoul. “The extraordinary quality of Sony provides a new joy of photo shooting.”

The company’s new compact camera RX1 is claimed to be the world’s first that has applied the 35-millimeter full-frame Exmor CMOS image sensor.

The image sensor is bigger in size compared to most sensors used in other cameras, enhancing the picture quality and widening the viewing angle for its users, according to Sony officials. The image sensor also halves the image noise.

With Sony Group president Kazuo Hirai naming digital imaging as one of its core businesses, the firm has maintained the top position in the markets of mirrorless cameras, camcorders and high-end compact cameras in Korea.
