Samsung Electronics Co.’s Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet has been picked as one of the best tablet computers along with rival Apple Inc.’s new iPad, a review by a U.S. magazine showed Monday.

The 10.1-inch tablet scored 83 points out of a 100-point scale, getting the highest points among tablet computers with 9- to 12-inch displays that only support WiFi access, according to the review by Consumer Reports.

The Galaxy Note 10.1, which is an upgraded version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and comes with a electronic stylus, got an “excellent” rating for portability and touch response.

In terms of ease of use, display and versatility, the gadget got the second-highest “very good” rating from Consumer Reports.

In the review for 9- to 12-inch tablet computers that support third-generation or fourth-generation networks in addition to WiFi connection, Samsung lagged behind Apple.

The new iPad and iPad 2 scored 85 points and 81 points, respectively, while the Galaxy Tab 10.1 received 80 points.

In the smartphone category, the U.S. publication favorably reviewed the iPhone 5, Apple’s latest iPhone that supports the fourth-generation long-term evolution network.

Consumer Reports said the iPhone 5 is “among the best smartphones in our ratings and the best iPhone yet.”

The U.S. publication said while several app glitches tainted the gadget, the 4-inch display and 4G LTE access were features that helped the iPhone 5 surpass the iPhone 4S, as well as some other Android-based smartphones. (Yonhap News)
