The Busan Film Commission said Wednesday that it will open Asia’s first 3-D digital film production facility during an annual international film festival set to open in this southern port city this week.

The “Digital Bay” studio is equipped with a previsualization system used to visualize complex scenes in movies before filming, according to the commission.

The studio was created through a remodeling of a conventional film studio in the city to cope with rapidly changing moviemaking environments and is the first such facility in Asia, it added.

The unveiling will be timed with the Busan International Film Commission (BIFCOM) to be held at the BEXCO convention center on Oct. 8-11, the commission said.

BIFCOM is part of the events at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) scheduled for Oct. 4-13.

In June, the commission invited experts from Hollywood to learn special-effect technologies and how to operate and use the digital studio.

Commission officials expect the digital studio will help establish Busan as a location for major film and TV productions.
