Japanese police on Monday arrested a man who posed as a doctor to earn cash, examining 2,300 people with little more than a few hours of self-study to back it up, police and media said.

Miyabi Kuroki, 43, had no experience of medical school and passed himself off as a qualified doctor after finding the identity of a legitimate physician on the Internet, Jiji Press reported.

He was dispatched by an employment agency to a Tokyo hospital where he conducted medical interviews, examined electrocardiograms and explained check-up results to more than 2,300 people, local media said.

He was undone when a medical exam study school where he had "taught" became suspicious and contacted the hospital.

Police in Tokyo said Monday they had arrested Kuroki on suspicion of forging a medical license in 2009 and earning 2.62 million yen ($34,000) by illegally working part time as a doctor at a hospital in Tokyo in 2010 and 2011.

The suspect reportedly admitted the wrongdoing, telling investigators: "I wanted money to pay child care and living expenses."

The hospital where he worked has apologized for the incident and asked all those seen by him to go back for re-testing. (AFP)

가짜 의사, 버젓이 병원에서 2천명 진료

일본 경찰은 월요일 불과 몇 시간 동안 독학으로 의학 공부를 한 뒤 의사로 사칭해 2,300여명의 환자를 진료한 남성을 체포했다.

미야비 쿠로키(43)은 의과대학에서 수학한 경력이 없으며, 인터넷에서 발견한 내과의사의 신원을 이용해 의사행세를 하고 다녔다고 현지 언론이 전했다.

코로키는 직업소개소를 통해 도쿄에 있는 한 병원에 파견되어 2,000명이 넘는 환자들의 건강진단과 심전도 체크, 검사 결과를 설명하는 등 의료행위를 해온 것으로 알려졌다.

그의 정체는 그가 한 때 가르친 적이 있다고 말한 한 의학 시험 연구 학교가 이를 수상쩍게 여겨 병원에 연락하면서 밝혀졌다.

도쿄 경찰은 월요일 2009년 쿠로키가 의사 면허증을 위조한 혐의와 2010년과 2011년 도쿄의 병원에서 시간제 의사로 일해 총 262만 옌(한화 약 3,800만원) 상당의 수입을 불법적으로 벌어들인 혐의로 구속했다.

피의자는 혐의를 받아들였으며 경찰에게 “생활비와 보육을 위한 돈이 필요했다”고 말한 것으로 알려졌다.

해당 병원은 사건에 대해 사과하고, 코로키에게 검진을 받은 환자들에게 재검사를 받을 것을 청했다.
