The ambassadors of Argentina and Brazil addressed a seminar on the effects of globalization on trade and investment in Latin American countries on Aug. 30.

Argentine Ambassador Carlos Alberto Arganaraz and Brazilian Ambassador Edmundo Sussumu Fujita gave welcoming speeches at “The Era of Globalization: Trade, Investment and Legal Perspectives in Latin America,” which took place from 9 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. at COEX Intercontinental Hotel in Seoul.

The Korea Legislation Research Institute-organized seminar featured three mains sessions: “Trade, Investment and Legal Perspectives in the Argentine Republic,” moderated by Ko Dong-won, professor of law at Sungkyunkwan University Law School; “Corporate Practice and Foreign Investment in Brazil and Colombia,” moderated by Bryan E. Hopkins, professor at the Graduate School of Business at Sejong University; and “Investment and Competition Policies in Chile and Peru,” moderated by Song Woong-soon, senior partner at Shin & Kim.

Among the topics discussed were Argentina’s experience of and response to financial crises, Brazil’s legal framework for business, Chile’s economic makeup and the role of competition agencies in Latin America. Latin America has been one of the fastest-growing regions in recent years, gaining increasing economic and political clout.

The KLRI is a government-funded organization founded in 1990 to research and formulate legislation.

Korea has free trade agreements with Chile, Peru and Colombia.
