“The top-priority issue at this point is to maximize Moon’s support rate within the party, in order to eliminate any possible disputes before candidate unification.”

The former presidential chief-of-staff came first in the party’s regional primary votes for three consecutive times, despite the mobile voting feud last week which caused backlash from underdog rivals.

Rep. Moon earlier proposed for Ahn to establish a joint government in an effort but the professor showed no reaction to it, still undecided whether or not to run in the election in the first place.

Ahn, who is not affiliated with any political party, is largely expected to unveil his future plans soon.

Pollster Realmeter showed on Monday that in the theoretical two-way race, Moon slightly caught up on Ahn, by boosting his polls by 2.1 percent to 33.8 percent.

The professor still took the lead with 42.5 percent, but his support rate has taken a downturn since he was recently rumored to frequently visit a particular hostess bar.

Meanwhile, skeptical views were also suggested on the possible Moon-Ahn primary.

“The liberal camp seems convinced that it shall win in the December presidential election, if only the DUP succeeds in unifying with Ahn,” said Cho Kuk, law professor at Seoul National University on Tuesday.

Cho, however, expressed his doubts over this general optimism.

“The DUP has failed to achieve reforms and Ahn lacks political statesmanship,” he said.

“I am not convinced that either may be competitive enough against the Saenuri’s Rep. Park.”

대세 문재인 단일화?“상처없는 1위 중요”

민주통합당 문재인 대선 경선 후보 캠프에서 안 철수 서울대 융합과학기술대학원장과의 후보단일화를 대비해야 한다는 의견이 조금씩 흘러나오기 시작했다.

지금까지 진행된 세 차례 경선 결과를 놓고 보면 문 후보의 승리 가능성이 높은 상황이어서 이제는 내부적으로 경선 이후 후보단일화를 어떤 방식으로 풀어낼지 준비가 필요하다는 것이다.

캠프 핵심 관계자는 29일 "단일화 문제를 너무 일찍 꺼내면 오만하다는 비판을 받을 수 있고 가만히 손놓고 있으면 너무 늦어질 수 있다"며 "속도와 완급 조절이 필요하다"고 말했다.

다른 관계자는 "당초 경선 반환점을 돌고 후반부로 가면 단일화 고민을 본격화 해야 하지 않을까 싶었지만 그 시기를 조금 앞당겨야 하지 않을까 싶다"고 피력했다.

캠프 내 전략 단위에서 이 문제를 본격적으로 검토하기 시작했다는 얘기도 나온 다.

문 후보는 경선이 시작되기 전부터 안 원장과의 공동정부론을 꺼내들고 당내 후 보군 중 후보단일화에 가장 적극적인 태도를 보였다.

그러나 안 원장이 국정 비전은 물론 출마 의사조차 밝히지 않은 상태인데 단일 화 문제를 거론하는 것은 시기상조라는 비판론이 일자 수위조절에 들어간 분위기였다.

이와 관련, 최근 문 후보 측이 정치개혁의 메시지를 강조하고 문 후보가 한때 안 원장의 멘토로 통했던 법륜 스님과 조찬회동을 한 것은 단일화를 염두에 둔 행보 아니냐는 해석도 나온다.

문 후보 측은 안 원장과의 단일화를 대비하려면 일단 당내 경선을 통해 지지율을 끌어올리는 것이 급선무라는 인식을 갖고 있다.

리얼미터가 지난 24일과 27일 양일에 걸쳐 실시한 여론조사를 보면 다자구도에 서 문 후보의 지지율은 13.5%로 전주 평균 12.3%에 비해 오차범위 내에서 소폭 상승 하는데 그쳤다. 추이를 좀더 지켜봐야겠지만 아직은 경선의 컨벤션효과가 문 후보에 게 본격화하지 않았다는 뜻으로도 볼 수 있다.

문 후보 측은 "단일화가 힘을 받으려면 후보 지지율이 올라야 하고 이를 위해 경선 흥행과 상처없는 1위가 중요하다"며 "경선을 협력과 화합의 장으로 끝내는 것 이 필요하다"고 말했다.
