One happy couple enjoys weddings so much they’ve had 22 of them, and say there are eight more to go.

Alex Pelling, 32, and Lisa Grant, 30, have known each other for 11 years and have been dating for six years. When they were searching for a place to hold their wedding, they came up with an idea to travel around the world and have a wedding ceremony in each country, following the local cultures and traditions.

“The wedding opportunities offered to us in the U.K. did not suit what we wanted, so we decided to look for the perfect place to wed while we travelled,” said the couple.

They’ve been traveling all around the world for two years, making special memories along the way. They have been hitched among dolphins in Hawaii, as vampires in Los Angeles, on horseback in Banff, in a crayfish-riddled lake in Michigan and more. Still they say they are planning for eight more.

To travel around, Alex and Lisa sold their car repair shop and their home, and they’ve been sticking to a strict weekly budget since. They bought a 25-year-old campervan, which they named Peggy, and have covered 55,000 km so far.

“The budget is very tight but we are managing," Pelling said. "Our biggest cost is fuel, obviously, and we do a weekly shop at local markets to reduce our living costs.”

Their wedding ceremonies were performed thanks to people who tried to help the couple, including photographers, suppliers, family members and other people they met.

“Everyone helps us for free or minimal cost as they want to help us spread the love and to be a part of our adventure,” Grant said.

Pelling and Grant are keeping an online blog, on which they share everything about their travels including photographs of their wedding ceremonies. Also it is possible to attend their ceremonies by sending a request through their blog.

“If there is anything that makes you know you are meant to be together it is surviving this trip without a single argument. We still get nervous before every single ceremony!” said the happy couple.

결혼식만 22번째...’아직 8번 더’

영국의 한 부부가 각기 다른 곳에서 22번의 결혼식을 올려 화제가 되고있다.

알렉스 펠링, 리사 그랜트 부부는 결혼식을 올릴 곳을 생각하던 도중, 세계 각지를 돌아다니며 각국의 문화와 전통에 맞추어 결혼식을 올리자는 생각을 해냈다.

이 부부는 "영국에서 하려던 결혼식은 우리가 하고 싶은게 아니었어요. 그래서 우리가 원하는 결혼식을 하기 위해 여행을 떠나기로 한거죠,"라고 말했다.

이 부부는 이 년간 세계 곳곳을 돌아다니며 특별한 추억을 만들었다. 하와이에서는 돌고래와 함께, 미국 LA에서는 뱀파이어 분장을하고, 캐나다 뱀프에서는 말을 타고, 미국 미시간에서는 물고기가 가득한 호수 안에서 결혼식을 올렸다. 이들은 아직도 여덟개의 결혼식을 더 할 예정이다.

자유롭게 여행을 하기 위해서 알렉스와 리사는 소유하고 있던 정비소와 집을 팔고, "페기"라고 이름 붙인 캠핑카를 하나 장만했다. 그들이 페기로 여행한 거리는 총 55,000km이다. 알렉스는 "엄격하게 예산을 관리하고 있지만, 잘 살아나가고 있어요. 기름값이 가장 많이 나가고, 비용을 최소화하기 위해 매주 시장에서 장을 보고 있어요,"라고 말했다.

알렉스와 리사의 결혼식은 각지에서 그들을 도우려고 노력했던 사진사, 각종 물품 제공자 그리고 가족 덕분이다. 리사는 "우리가 세계 곳곳에 사랑을 퍼뜨릴 수 있도록 모두가 최소한의 가격으로 우리를 돕고 있어요"라고 전했다.

부부는 인터넷 블로그를 운영하여, 이곳에 여행에 관한 정보와 결혼식 사진 등을 게재해 놓았다. 또한 이들에게 블로그를 통해 초대를 신청하면, 결혼식에 참여하는 것도 가능하다.

이 행복한 부부는 "다툼 없이 이 여행을 마친다면 서로가 인연인 것을 확인하는 것"이라며 "아직도 결혼식을 하기전에는 떨리고 설렌다"고 덧붙였다.
