Singer Kim Jang-hoon, known for his activism to reinforce Korean sovereignty over Dokdo, announced on Thursday he plans to found a foundation for his future Dokdo-related projects.

The projects consist of building a Dokdo-themed cultural space “Dokdo Land” and providing support for Dokdo research for academic scholars, he said.

“I’ve been working on the Dokdo project for a while,” said Kim during a press conference in Seoul on Thursday.

“And I thought it was necessary to form a foundation to keep track of the money associated with what we do for Dokdo.”

The foundation will be named “Dokdo Culture Camp,” and Sungshin Women’s University professor Seo Kyoung-duk, who has been working with Kim on a variety of Dokdo campaigns overseas, will be working as one of the executive members.

Kim is also working on a project where he, along with Korea National Sport University students, will swim from a port in Wooljin, North Gyeongsang Province, to Dokdo to promote Korea’s sovereignty over the rocky islets in the East Sea, next month.

Kim and scholar Seo has been working closely together for the last few years as Dokdo-activists, including financing a Times Square billboard to promote Korea’s sovereignty over the islets.
