A lawmaker from the minor opposition party with alleged pro-North Korean sympathies was humiliated at a rally of farmers Tuesday when protesters who dislike his stance on Pyongyang grabbed him by the collar, witnesses said.

Rep. Lee Seok-gi of the Unified Progressive Party (UPP), who is under pressure to resign for his involvement in a rigged vote, joined farmers in central Seoul to protest a free trade deal between South Korea and China.

Lee was demeaned at the rally when some farmers grabbed him by the collar and told him, "Leave!" saying he was not qualified to join them as he disapproves of South Korea's national anthem, "Aegukga," according to witnesses.

Lee has been a main figure in rekindling pro-North Korean controversy here after he earlier said "Aegukga" cannot be viewed as South Korea's national anthem.

Despite complaints from angry farmers, there were no further scuffles reported. Some farmers were uncomfortable with Lee's appearance at the rally out of fear that support from such a controversial figure could tarnish the authenticity of the protest.

The UPP, with 13 parliamentary seats, has been embroiled in a bitter internal conflict after its mainstream faction, which is accused of having a pro-North Korean stance, was involved in the manipulation of the party's proportional representation primary for the April vote. 이석기 의원, 농민 집회 참석했다 멱살잡혀


이석기 통합진보당 의원이 3일 농민 집회에 참석했다가 일부 농민으로부터 멱살을 잡혔다.

이 의원은 이날 오후 2시 서울광장에서 열린 '한•중 자유무역협정(FTA) 중단 전국농어민대회'에 농민들의 입장을 지지하기 위해 참석했다.

한중FTA중단농수축산비상대책위가 주최한 이날 집회는 3~5일 제주에서 열리는 한•중 FTA 체결을 위한 2차 협상을 중단하라고 촉구하기 위한 행사로 33개 농민단체 회원 9천여명(경찰 추산)이 참가했다.

집회 현장에 도착한 이 의원은 대오에 합류하기 위해 앞쪽으로 걸어가던 중 한 농민에 의해 양복 옷깃을 잡혔다. 이 농민은 이 의원을 끌어내려고 했다.

이때는 마침 이 의원을 알아본 사진기자들이 그를 에워싸고 연신 카메라 세례를 퍼부을 때였다.

다른 농민들도 이 의원을 둘러싸며 '애국가도 안 부르면서 왜 이곳에 왔냐', 

농민집회니까 방해되니 나가라'는 등의 소리를 지르며 그를 내쫓으려 했다.

흥분한 농민들의 항의가 이어졌지만 이 의원은 수행원들에 둘러싸인 채 집회 대 오 가운데 합류했다. 지지자들에 둘러싸인 덕에 더 이상의 추가적인 마찰은 일어나지 않았다.

이 의원은 집회 도중 구호를 따라 외치며 지지를 표시하기도 했다.

한편 집회를 마치고 기자와 만난 이 의원은 "공식 초청을 받고 농민들을 위해 지지 발언을 하러 온 것"이라고만 말하고서 농민들과의 불미스러운 일에 대해서는 언급을 삼갔다.
