Lee meets with Danish crown prince couple

South Korean President Lee Myung-bak hosted a luncheon for Denmark's crown prince couple Friday and the two sides discussed bilateral relations and other issues of mutual interest, the presidential office said.

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary arrived Thursday for a six-day official visit that includes attending an international conference on green growth, the opening ceremony of the World Expo in the southwestern port city of Yeosu and a visit to the Demilitarized Zone separating the two Koreas.

During Friday's meeting, Lee expressed gratitude for Denmark sending a hospital ship to help South Korea during the 1950-53 Korean War and helping the Asian nation modernize its medical and agricultural sectors, the presidential office said in a statement.

Lee said he hopes the crown price couple's trip will further deepen ties between the sides.

Prince Frederik said he believes relations between the two countries will move forward in a future-oriented way based on a "strategic partnership" and a "green growth alliance" that they forged during Lee's state visit to the European nation last year, the office said.

Lee said the crown prince's attendance in the World Expo's opening ceremony will contribute to the event's success, and Prince Frederik appreciated South Korea's successful hosting of a series of major international events like a G20 summit and this year's Nuclear Security Summit, it said.

李대통령, 덴마크 왕세자 초청 오찬

이명박 대통령은 11일 청와대에서 방한 중인 프레데릭 크리스티안 덴마크 왕세자 내외와 오찬을 함께 하면서 양국 관계와 여수박람회, 평창 동계올림픽 등에 대해 의견을 교환했다.

이 대통령은 오찬에서 덴마크가 6ㆍ25전쟁 당시 우리나라를 지원해준 데 대해 감사의 뜻을 전하며 "프레데릭 왕세자 내외 방한을 계기로 110년에 걸친 양국간 우호협력이 더욱 강화되기를 기대한다"고 밝혔다고 배석자들이 전했다.

이 대통령은 이어 해양강국이자 환경분야 선도국인 덴마크의 여수 박람회 참여 와 왕세자 내외의 개막식 참석이 박람회의 성공적 개최에 크게 기여할 것으로 기대 한다고 강조했다.

이에 대해 프레데릭 왕세자는 지난해 5월 이 대통령의 덴마크 국빈 방문을 통해 한-덴마크 전략적 동반자관계가 수립되고, 양국 간 녹색성장동맹이 출범하는 등 미래지향적 양국관계 발전을 위한 전기가 마련됐다고 화답했다.

그러면서 G20(주요 20개국) 정상회의와 서울 핵안보정상회의 등 주요 국제행사를 성공적으로 치러낸 한국의 리더십과 평창 동계올림픽을 `녹색 올림픽'으로 치르려는 한국 측 노력을 높이 평가했다.

이 대통령과 프레데릭 왕세자는 또 양국 간 경제ㆍ통상협력 관계가 지속적으로 발전해오고 있다는데 인식을 같이하고, 왕세자 방한에 관계부처 장관과 기업인들이 대거 동행함으로써 양국관계 발전에 실질적으로 기여할 것으로 전망했다.

상춘재 뜰에서 진행된 오찬은 불고기와 비빔밥 등 한식 메뉴로 채워졌으며, 프레데릭 왕세자는 "덴마크와 한국은 친구인 만큼 우정이 계속되기를 바란다"며 건배를 제의했다.

김윤옥 여사는 왕세자비가 스마트폰에 저장된 쌍둥이 자녀 사진을 보여주자 직 접 만든 인형을 왕세자비에게 선물로 줬다.
