SK Group said Friday that its chairman Chey Tae-won met Peruvian President Ollanta Humala at SK Energy’s oil refinery complex in the southeastern coastal city of Ulsan.

The group said that the visiting president discussed future partnerships with the nation’s energy giant in resource development and other energy businesses.

“Since its first participation in developing an oil field, Block 8, in 1996, SK and Peru have maintained a partnership for 17 years,” Chey said at the meeting.

“We expect to create new win-win models to exert SK’s capacity in Peru other than existing resource development businesses.”

The president was also quoted as saying to have appreciated the group’s contribution to Peru’s economic growth and expressed willingness to continue support.

Starting with its acquisition of 8.33 percent stakes of the Block 8 oil field in 1996, SK has thus far participated in the development of four oil fields and their pipeline system in Peru.
