Elevator security officials donate talents

Korea Elevator Safety Institute did volunteer work on Wednesday at Suwon Bohun Nursing Home in Gyeonggi Province.

KESI announced on Thursday that 30 of its employees, including chief Gong Chang-seok, visited the nursing home for the event “We are all happy if elevators are healthy.”

The group checked the security of the elevators installed at the nursing home and gave foot massages to the patients, took them for walks and served food. KESI also provided financial support.

“The paradigm of volunteer work is changing. We will donate more of our talents as a professional elevator safety institute,” said Gong.

KESI said that it will check the security of elevators in more social facilities in the future and educate unemployed young people so they can earn elevator-security certificates. The institute is also seeking ways to discover employees who are good in music, literature, sports or foreign languages to have them donate their talents to low-income or multicultural families.

KESI currently does donation and volunteer work in underdeveloped countries like Mongolia and Vietnam as well as delivering elevator-testing techniques and systems.
