Fr. Park Mun-su will explain the history of Seoul’s low-income housing at a Yeol Lecture on April 10.

The lectures are offered by the Yeol Society for Korean Cultural Heritage to give expats insight into Korean culture.

He will explain Seoul’s development since the 1960s, including the violent evictions that accompanied the city’s gentrification and preparations for the 1988 Olympic Games and the satellite villages of evictees that resulted.

He will look into the social movement this sparked and the government’s moves to offer more affordable housing in response, as well as the present housing shortage.

The lecture takes place from 10:30 a.m. until noon in the Seminar Room on the second floor of the Seoul Museum of History.

Attendance costs 10,000 won. To register or for more information contact yeol400@paran.com, or visit yeol.org.
