POSCO TJ Park Foundation on Wednesday awarded a nano-medicine expert, a school principal and a human rights activist the annual TJ Park Prizes for science, education and social endeavor, respectively.
Cheon Jin-woo, professor of chemistry at Yonsei University, won the award for his research in the use of nanotechnology for medical purposes.
Kwak Jong-moon, principal of Hangyeore Middle and High School, was awarded for his contributions in alternative education and helping teenaged North Korean defectors adapt to life in the South. The foundation awarded Cambodian human rights activist Somaly Mam, representative of the Somaly Mam Foundation, for her help for the victims of human trafficking.
The winners received 200 million won each in prize money at the award ceremony in the steelmaker’s Seoul headquarters.
The foundation, named after POSCO founder Park Tae-joon, has awarded the annual prize for outstanding achievement in the fields of science, education and social services since 2006.
