The police said Monday that the number of school gang members under their observation is 2,831.

After weeks of profiling school gangs likely to cause school violence, the police drew up their list of school gangs nationwide.

The list is categorized by two groups -― 129 school gangs which are currently under investigation or have been probed, and 36 groups with a high chance of committing school violence in the future, the police said.

The police plans to break up groups they believe have contributed to escalating school violence.

Since the government announced a zero-tolerance stance on school violence, the number of arrests related to school violence has increased 90 percent to 3,909 in a year, according to the police.

School violence reports to the police have also surged by 36-fold per day in a year.
