Samsung, KT, LG win at trade show

Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy S2 was chosen as the best smartphone at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Wednesday.

Presented by the Global System for Mobile Association, Samsung’s flagship smartphone Galaxy S2 competed with other handsets like Galaxy Nexus, Apple’s iPhone 4S, HTC’s Desire S and Nokia’s Lumia 800.

It was also given the Device Manufacturer of the Year award at the event.

It was the first time for the firm to take home the best device manufacturer award and the third time it won the best mobile phone award.

KT Corp., the country’s biggest fixed-line service operator, also won the Best Mobile Broadband Technology award for its premium Wi-Fi solution at the Global Mobile Awards 2012.

The premium Wi-Fi solution enables the firm to accommodate up 17 times of more people simultaneously and offer 8 times upgraded speed when using the wireless Internet networks compared to the existing Wi-Fi networks.

On another front, LG Electronics’ Optimus 4X HD was also picked as the best product at the MWC 2012 by foreign IT outlet called Tom’s hardware.

Due to the high-performing and highly efficient central processing unit, it showcased a high definition colorful display, according to the outlet.

The Optimus 4X HD is also equipped with NVIDIA’s 1.5 gigahertz quad-core processor Tegra 3, featuring the quad-core handset for the first time with a few competitors at the trade show.
