President Lee Myung-bak called Monday for concerted efforts to prepare for the upcoming Nuclear Security Summit, saying support from citizens is key to successfully hosting one of the biggest international events South Korea has ever hosted.

Lee made the remark during a visit to the organizing committee of the March 26-27 summit expected to draw dozens of world leaders, including U.S. President Barack Obama, Chinese President Hu Jintao and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to discuss how to make the world safer without nuclear weapons.

Lee was briefed by committee officials on how preparations are going, including the summit‘s agenda, security and protocol arrangements, and traffic measures, the presidential office said in a statement.

“All related ministries and agencies should unite to successfully host the Nuclear Security Summit, which is the biggest summit event since South Korea was founded,” Lee said, according to the office.

Lee also instructed officials to minimize any inconvenience the event causes to citizens. (Yonhap News)
