S. Korea qualifies for London Olympics men's football

South Korea clinched a berth in men's football at the London Olympics here Wednesday, blanking home side Oman 3-0 in the penultimate regional qualification contest.

At Al Seeb Sports Stadium in the Omanese capital, winger Nam Tae-hee scored seconds into the match, and his teammates added a pair of second-half goals to send South Korea to its seventh straight Olympics.

The victory gave South Korea a four-point cushion over Oman at the top of Group A with one game left for both nations. South Korea is tops with 11 points on three wins and two draws.

Moments after the kick-off, Nam struck the loose ball from the penalty spot past goalkeeper Mahnad Al Zaabi, after Oman failed to clear Kim Min-woo's pass attempt.

This was Nam's first start for the Olympic squad. He has scored four goals in seven games so far this season with Lekhwiya SC, his first in the Qatar Stars League, following a disappointing two-year stint with Valenciennes FC in Ligue 1, the first-division French league.

In the 67th minute, Kim Hyun-sung doubled South Korea's lead.

The 186-centimeter forward slipped behind Oman's defense to head in Park Jong-woo's long free kick.

Substitute Baek Sung-dong made it 3-0 four minutes later. Kim Bo-kyung stole an Oman clearing attempt and threaded a pass past two defenders for the charging Baek. The diving Al Zaabi got only a piece of the low shot.

Most of the near-sellout crowd filed out of the stadium after the third Korean goal. Some remaining fans then started throwing water bottles and debris toward the pitch, delaying the match for nearly 10 minutes.

With South Korea in complete control on the offensive end, Oman didn't test the South Korean defense much. Eid Mohammed launched a hard strike from the top of the box in the 24th, but keeper Lee Bum-young punched out Oman's best scoring chance.

This was South Korea's first road victory in this qualification round. It had earlier drawn Qatar and Saudi Arabia. South Korea is set to host Qatar in the last qualification game next month.

Only the top seeds from three groups in the final round punch their tickets to London. Three No. 2 teams will enter a playoff, with the winner going on to face Senegal for the final chance to qualify for this year's Olympics.

South Korea will be making its ninth Olympic appearance. It has never won a football medal and has gone past the first round only twice.

Olympic football teams are for players under 23 years old. But participants are each allowed to pick up to three players over that limit, known as "wild cards." (Yonhap News)

한국축구, 오만 꺾고 7회 연속 올림픽 본선행

한국 남자축구가 오만을 꺾고 2012 런던 올림픽 본선 티켓을 확보했다.

홍명보 감독이 이끄는 한국은 22일(현지시간) 오마 무스카트의 알 시브 스타디 움에서 열린 올림픽 아시아지역 최종예선 A조 5차전 오만과의 원정에서 경기시작 1 분도 채 지나지 않아 터진 남태희(레퀴야)의 결승골과 후반 김현성(서울)과 백성동( 이와타)의 연속골에 힘입어 3-0으로 이겼다.

(3월14일) 결과에 관계없이 7회 연속 올림픽 본선 진출에 성공했다. 통산으로는 9번 째 본선 진출이다.

앞서 열린 중동 원정에서 시원한 승리를 얻지 못한 한국은 김현성을 최전방 원 톱 공격수로 올리고 남태희를 오른쪽 날개, 김보경(세레소 오사카)을 왼쪽 날개로 배치해 승부수를 띄웠다.

눈 깜짝할 사이 선제골을 터뜨린 것은 올림픽대표팀에 처음 승선한 남태희였다.

2009년 20세 이하 대표팀 소집 훈련 때 남태희를 테스트했던 홍 감독은 이번 경 기를 앞두고 "3년 사이에 몰라보게 성장했다"며 그에 대한 믿음을 보였다.

이 믿음에 보답하듯 남태희는 경기 시작 15초 만에 깜짝 골을 터뜨렸다.

주심의 경기 시작 휘슬이 울린 지 얼마 되지 않아 수비수인 홍정호(제주)가 페 널티지역 안에 있는 김현성(FC서울)의 머리를 보고 후방에서 패스를 올렸다.

김현성이 머리로 떨어뜨려 준 공을 김민우(사간도스)가 슈팅으로 연결하려다 균 형을 잃었고 오만의 수비수가 걷어냈다.

하지만 이 공은 남태희의 왼발에 걸렸다.

남태희는 이 기회를 놓치지 않고 오만 골문 오른쪽 구석으로 차넣어 1-0으로 앞 서 나갔다.

한국은 중원 압박을 통해 오만의 공격을 효과적으로 차단했고 제공권에서 우위 를 보인 김현성을 이용한 공격으로 추가 득점을 노렸다.

하지만 불필요한 옐로카드를 받아 실점 위기를 맞기도 했다.

전반 27분 골키퍼 이범영이 페널티지역 안에서 공을 너무 오래 갖고 있다가 경 고를 받아 간접 프리킥을 허용했다.

또 4분 뒤에는 김현성이 심한 태클을 하다 옐로카드를 받았고 이에 항의하던 김태영 코치는 퇴장을 당했다.

한국은 전반 인저리 타임에 김영권(오미야)의 결정적인 슛이 오만 수비수에게 막혀 무산되면서 다소 위축된 분위기에서 후반전을 맞았다.

하지만 한국은 후반 23분 미드필드 왼쪽에서 올린 박종우의 프리킥을 김현성이 머리로 받아 넣어 2-0을 만들었다.

후반 27분에는 김보경이 오만의 일자 수비를 일시에 허무는 패스를 백성동(이와 타)에게 찔러줬다.

후반 20분 남태희를 대신해 교체 투입된 백성동은 오른발로 강하게 차 넣어 승 리를 결정지었다.

패배가 확실해지자 오만 응원단은 경기장 안으로 폭죽을 쏘아대고 물병을 던져 경기가 10분 이상 중단됐다. 이 과정에서 한국영(쇼난)이 잠시 쓰러지는 험악한 분 위기가 연출됐다.

한편 같은 A조의 카타르는 알 사드 경기장에서 열린 홈경기에서 사우디 아라비 아를 2-1로 꺾었다.

1승3무1패로 승점 6을 쌓아 3위를 유지한 카타르는 2위 오만(승점 7)을 바짝 추 격했다.
