Lotte Duty Free, a leading Korean retail operator, said Wednesday that it has opened its first overseas shop at Indonesia’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

The duty-free shop covers 900 square-meters and will sell various cosmetics, perfume, liquor and tobacco products to travelers using the airport located about 20 kilometers west of Jakarta.

The duty-free operator, which is part of the Hotel Lotte chain, said it has also set up an interactive screen featuring Korean pop stars to give its shop a dynamic image.

“Lotte Duty Free will offer the best possible service for its customers by drawing on its extensive 30 years of experience in the business,” a company executive said.

Besides the Indonesia operation, the company submitted a bid to win duty-free shopping rights at Hong Kong’s Chek Lap Kok International Airport in October and is currently waiting to see if it has been selected.

The company said that it is aiming to expand its overseas business sector so it can be built up to account for more than 40 percent of its sales by 2018.

Before the launch of its Indonesian outlet, Lotte Duty Free operated 10 shops exclusively in Korea, with four being located at Incheon, Gimpo, Gimhae and Jeju international airports.
