<URGENT> Prosecutors raid key suspect's house in GNP bribery case

Prosecutors on Wednesday raided the residence of a former secretary of National Assembly Speaker Park Hee-tae as part of their investigation into allegations Park offered bribes to fellow lawmakers before a 2008 party leadership race.
The move came after Grand National Party (GNP) lawmaker Koh Seung-duk alleged the parliamentary speaker's former aide, identified only by his surname Ko, delivered envelopes stuffed with
3 million won (US$2,600) and Park's name card to his office before the party elected its new leader in 2008.
Koh said he found the money one day after the July 4 national convention and returned the envelopes to Park's office after Park was elected to the GNP's top post.
A team of prosecutors and investigators searched Ko's house in Ilsan, northwest of Seoul, confiscating account ledgers, computer disks and other materials that could support the bribery allegations.
Prosecutors said while they have yet to confirm Ko delivered or received back the money at Park's direction, they will ask him to voluntarily appear before prosecutors for further questioning. A detention warrant the prosecutors sought for Ko was reportedly rejected by a Seoul court on Tuesday.
Ko, who currently serves as an aide to an unidentified ruling party lawmaker, worked for Park for four years until 2004 and joined his camp again during the 2008 party leadership campaign.
Prosecutors also said they will soon summon another aide to Park who allegedly made a phone call to lawmaker Koh immediately after the money was returned. (Yonhap News)

박희태 前비서 자택 압수수색…檢출두
한나라당 전당대회 돈 봉투 살포 의혹을 수사 중인 서울중앙지검 공안1부(이상호 부장검사)는 11일 박희태 국회의장 의 전 비서였던 고모(41)씨의 경기 일산 자택을 전격 압수수색했다.
검찰은 이날 오전 8시10분께 수사관을 고씨 자택에 보내 2시간가량 압수수색을 진행했으며, 쇼핑백 1개 분량의 자료 등을 확보한 것으로 확인됐다.
고씨는 압수수색 당시 자택에 머물고 있었던 것으로 알려졌다.
고씨는 이어 이날 오전 10시38분 서초동 서울검찰청사에 자진 출석, 조사실로 직행했다.
고씨는 이번 사건을 폭로한 고승덕 의원이 지난 2008년 7·3 전대 당시 받았던 돈봉투를 자신의 보좌관 김모씨를 통해 박 의원실측에 돌려줄 때 이를 받은 당사자 라고 지목한 인물이다.
검찰은 전날 고씨에 대해 체포영장을 청구했으나 기각된 것으로 전해졌다.
검찰은 임의동행 형식으로 고씨를 연행할 예정이었으나 그가 자진해서 검찰에 출석하겠다고 밝힌 것으로 전해졌다.
고씨는 박 의장이 17대 국회의원이던 시절 의원실 비서를 맡았던 인물로, 현재 한나라당 모 의원 보좌관이다. 2008년 전대 당시에는 박희태 후보 캠프에서 일했다.
검찰은 고씨가 2008년 전대 직전 고 의원실에 돈 봉투를 직접 전달한 '검은 뿔 테 안경을 쓴 30대 초중반의 남성'과 동일인물일 가능성도 있다고 보고 있지만, 현 재까지는 돈 봉투 전달자를 특정하지 못한 것으로 전해졌다.
검찰은 고씨를 상대로 돈 봉투를 되돌려받게 된 경위와 함께 전대 직전 돈 봉투 를 건넨 사실이 있는지, 고 의원을 제외한 다른 의원 등에게도 돈 봉투를 돌렸는지 등을 추궁하고 있다.
또 고씨가 돈 봉투를 건네지 않았다면 돈 봉투를 건넸다는 '뿔테 안경의 남성'이 누구인지도 캐물을 방침이다.
또 고 의원에 따르면 고 의원실 보좌관이던 김모씨는 전대 다음날인 7월4일 고 씨에게 돈 봉투를 되돌려줬고, 김씨는 고씨로부터 '박희태 대표 비서 고○○'라고 적힌 명함을 받고 수첩에 '오전 10시2분'이라고 돈을 준 시각을 적었다.
고씨는 최근 연합뉴스와 통화에서 "4년 전 일이라 기억이 안 난다"고 말했다.
검찰은 조만간 고 의원이 돈 봉투를 돌려준 직후 그에게 전화를 걸었다는 박 의 장 측 인사도 불러 전화를 하게 된 경위 등을 조사할 계획이다.
