Official: navigator in Russian plane crash drunk

MOSCOW (AP) _ A spokesman for Russia's top investigative body says the navigator of a passenger airline that crashed in June killing 47 people was drunk.

The Tu-134 slammed into a highway just minutes before it was to land at the Petrozavodsk airport in Russia's northwest on June 20. Five people survived.

Vladimir Markin, a spokesman for Russia's Investigative Committee, said Sunday on Russian state television that ``the navigator of the airliner was in a condition of alcoholic intoxication.'' He did not say whether the man was at the controls at the time of the crash.

The broadcast did not specify the level of intoxication, but said experts believe the navigator, who was killed in the crash, had consumed about a glass of vodka shortly before the RusAir flight that originated in Moscow.

러 추락 항공기 조종사 술취해 비행

(모스크바 AP=연합뉴스) 지난 6월 러시아 북서부에서 47명의 목숨을 앗아간 항 공기 추락사고와 관련해 해당 여객기 조종사가 술에 취한 상태였다는 조사 결과가 나왔다.

블라디미르 마르킨 러시아 연방 수사위원회 대변인은 18일(현지시각) 러시아 국 영방송에서 사고 당시 "해당 여객기 조종사가 술에 취한 상태였다"고 밝혔다.

그러나 술에 취한 조종사가 추락 당시 여객기를 조종하고 있었는지 여부는 언급 하지 않았다.

러시아 국영방송은 해당 조종사가 어느 정도로 술에 취해있었는지는 구체적으로 밝히지 않았지만, 전문가들이 이 조종사가 비행 직전 보드카 한잔을 마신 것으로 보 고 있다고 전했다.

지난 6월 20일 러시아 현지 항공사 '루스에어' 소속 투폴레프(Tu)-134 여객기가 카렐리야 자치공화국 수도 페트로자보트스크시(市) 외곽의 공항 인근에서 착륙을 시 도하다 고속도로에 추락했으며, 이 사고로 비행기에 타고 있던 52명중 단 5명만 살 아남은 바 있다.
