Urban-planning expert to head GUIC

 Lee Jae-young, an urban housing and planning specialist, took office on Monday as the new president of the Gyeonggi Urban Innovation Corporation.

A former chief the of the land and housing unit at the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs, he will orchestrate the state-funded company’s residential land development activities.

At his inauguration ceremony in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, Lee picked sustainability, talent, creativity and ethics as his new management principles.

“Our job at the GUIC is boosting the city’s competitiveness and making it a better place to live. The company will settle it the right position only when we provide value that residents and customers want,” he said.

A graduate of Korea University, Lee entered the then Ministry of Construction & Transportation in 1980 after earning a master’s degree in urban planning from University of California, Berkeley. He has held a variety of land-related posts at the ministry.
