Sungkyunkwan University has named Prof. Kim Jun-young as its 19th president, the university board said Tuesday.
The new president was born in Sangju, North Gyeongsang Province in 1951, graduated from Sungkyunkwan University in 1975 with an economics major, passed the civil servant recruitment exam and worked in the interior ministry.

He earned a doctoral degree in economics from the University of Minnesota in 1984, and began to work at Sungkyunkwan University as a professor, later taking responsibilities as school affairs administrator, head of planning and coordination, vice president and head of external cooperation.
His presidential term will begin on Jan. 17 next year.
