Firth, who recently won the Best Actor Academy Award for his role in the film “The King’s Speech,” will join Kidman in Park’s new movie “Stoker,” the U.K.’s Daily Mail and the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.
However, an official at Park’s film company Moho Film told The Korea Herald that it was “too early to confirm the news reports,” adding that all details about who will take the main roles for the movie will be announced in April.
The film is about a girl and her mother who are visited by a mysterious uncle after the death of the girl’s father. LA Times reported that Kidman would play the mother and Firth the uncle.
The script was written by Wentworth Miller who rose to stardom through the recent U.S. drama series “Prison Break.”
Mia Wasikowska, who starred in the film “Alice in Wonderland,” has been confirmed to star in the film.
Park has been focusing on a Hollywood debut since his last feature-length film, “Thirst” (2009).
News reports said that Park will start shooting the film this summer.
Park’s filmography includes “Joint Security Area” (2000), “Oldboy” (2003), and “Sympathy for Lady Vengeance” (2005).
In February, Park and his younger brother, media artist Park Chan-kyong, won a Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival for their first collaboration “Night Fishing,” an iPhone-shot short film.
