A business venture between Korean Air Lines Co. and Delta Air Lines Inc. has allowed local travelers to fly on 370 routes to 192 cities in the United States since its launch last month, the South Korean carrier said Friday.

On May 1, the two airlines launched the joint venture that permits Korean passengers to use multiple routes when moving in the US by availing themselves of flights offered by either Korean Air or Delta Air, a company spokeswoman said over the phone.

Until a month ago, Korean Air customers leaving the country could only enter the US for travel or business trips through three cities -- New York, Los Angeles and Atlanta -- she said.

Korean Air and Delta have expanded their "cooperative operation" on Pacific routes since the JV partnership and are jointly selling tickets in Asia and the Americas, the statement said.

Currently, Korean Air operates 10 routes from Incheon to Atlanta, Seattle, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Chicago, Dallas, Washington and Honolulu. Delta runs three routes from Incheon to Atlanta, Seattle and Detroit.

They also share airport facilities to enhance customer experience. Those who book their flights in advance can pass airport security checks or cut down on transfer times in the US, the spokeswoman said.

The two airlines plan to extend joint services to Latin American routes on top of the North American routes, Korean Air said. (Yonhap)
