Hyundai Merchant Marine tops global on-time performance ranking

South Korea's Hyundai Merchant Marines Co. ranked No. 1 in the world in terms of on-time performance of its ships, industry data showed Monday, the first time it topped the list.

According to SeaIntel's latest report, a Denmark-based market global intelligence provider, HMM attained 85.4 percent on-time maintenance of its sailing schedule for August. This it said is the highest figure among shipping companies checked, and is 10.2 percentage points higher than the worldwide average for 18 leading shipping lines checked that stood at 75.2 percent.

Compared to the month before, the latest reading marks a 1.3 percentage point gain from the previous month that pushed the company up from the previous fourth place.

The data reflects on-time performance of HMM and its affiliated 2M Alliance partners that include Maersk Line and Mediterranean Shipping Company on the high demand North American, European, Atlantic, India and South American routes.

Excluding its partners in 2M, the on-time performance of HMM jumped to 94.6 percent, a tribute to the high level of service that the company provides its customers.

Regarding the latest report, a company source said HMM, as South Korea's largest shipping company, is committed to doing its utmost to meet demands of its clients by offering the best service possible and it will continue to do so going forward. (Yonhap)
