Bus drivers jailed for gang rape of disabled teen

A group of bus drivers who repeatedly gang raped a teenage girl with intellectual disability will serve jail time, South Korea’s Supreme Court said Monday, though none received a sentence of more than four years.

The high court decision confirmed the previous ruling of the lower court that had sentenced one of the former bus drivers, Han (66), to four years in prison.

Other accomplices, Roh (62) and Choi (60), will spend three years and two years in prison, respectively, on rape charges. Jang (45) will face two years in prison with a suspension of three years for attempted rape, the Supreme Court also confirmed.

The former bus drivers were convicted for having gang raped the victim more than once from 2012 to 2015.

In June 2012, the 17-year-old student was lured into riding in Han’s car to the village’s empty lot where she was forced to perform sexual acts to the bus driver.

Later, Roh and Choi joined in, taking the girl to a nearby motel to abuse her.

The student had been reportedly going to school on one of the drivers’ buses.

The local police started investigating the alleged rape case after the rumor spread in the bus company that a high school girl had been sexually molested.
