No South Korean casualties have been confirmed in the terrorist attack in Bangladesh, South Korea's foreign ministry said Saturday, adding no South Koreans in the southeast Asian country have been reported missing.

Ministry officials said the local government has not yet released the names or nationalities of victims in the terrorist attack.

Still, South Korean diplomats in Bangladesh were keeping a close watch on the situation, they added.

More than 20 people, including two police officers, are believed to have been killed after a group of seven to nine gunmen stormed a restaurant in the Bangladeshi capital late Friday, taking more than 30 customers and restaurant workers as hostages.

Citing an unidentified Indian government source, the Associated Press earlier reported that the list of some 20 victims in the attack may include South Koreans, along with Japanese, Italians, Bangladeshis and one Indian.

The restaurant where the attack took place is said to be located only about 700 meters from the South Korean Embassy, "We have not yet received a report that any residents or a business representatives here have been lost contact, and we have not received any related information from the Bangladeshi government," an official from the South Korean mission in Dhaka was quoted as saying.
