Korean-Americans have the most unfavorable view of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump among Asian-American voters in the U.S., a survey showed Tuesday.

About 80 percent of Korean-Americans had negative views of Trump, followed by Japanese-Americans with 76 percent and Filipino-Americans with 62 percent, according to the survey of 1,212 Asian-American voters released by Asian Americans Advancing Justice.

In total, 61 percent of the respondents had unfavorable views of Trump while only 19 percent had favorable views.

The results are attributable to a series of statements by Trump that showed that the real-estate tycoon has deeply negative views of U.S. security commitments overseas.

Trump has argued that the U.S. should be prepared to end protection of allies unless they pay more. He even suggested allowing South Korea and Japan to develop their own nuclear weapons for self-defense so as to reduce U.S. security burdens.

The survey also showed that a majority of Asian-Americans have favorable views of Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

Japanese- and Vietnamese-Americans had the most favorable views of Clinton with 66 percent each, followed by Asian Indian-Americans with 63 percent, Chinese-Americans with 61 percent and Korean-Americans with 60 percent, the survey showed.

Overall, 62 percent of Asian-Americans had favorable views of Clinton, it showed. (Yonhap)
