South Korea's top mobile messenger operator Daum Kakao Corp. said Wednesday it has opened an education center in Vietnam to provide information technology courses for the mentally handicapped.

The company said the education center in Hanoi aims to narrow the digital divide in the country in cooperation with the Korea International Cooperation Agency.

"While employers demand handicapped jobseekers have ICT capabilities, the education infrastructure (in Vietnam) is poor," Daum Kakao said, adding it aims to provide practical support.

Daum Kakao said it will use its capabilities to provide various courses related to the IT sector and help students find jobs.

The volunteer team composed of Daum Kakao employees will also help operate the education center.

Daum Kakao has been conducting outreach programs in Southeast Asian countries, including Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar, since 2007. (Yonhap)
