Philip Morris Korea said Monday that it had donated 100 million won ($95,000) to a scholarship center in Yangsan as part of its social responsibility activities.

The company said the scholarships will be given to middle and high school students who show academic promise.

The regional scholarship center was established in 2006 in a bid to help students from low-income families receive higher education and to foster talent in artistic and physical education.

“We hope the donation will be helpful in fostering talented students who will take the lead in the development of the region as well as the company,” said Chung Il-woo, head of Philip Morris Korea.

Philip Morris Korea has been working together with the Yangsan community since it set up its plant in the city in 2002. The company has been offering an annual 100 million won since 2010 to help improve the region’s educational environment.
