One day has passed since EXO member Baekhyun and Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon went public about their romantic relationship, but fans’ interest in the love story has only grown. 


The idol couple, a combination of the most popular groups in Asia, carries significant meaning in many respects.

1. Two most popular members from the two most popular groups in Asia
There is no doubt that the new couple is made up of the most popular members of K-pop sensations EXO and Girls’ Generation, which makes them “a mighty couple.” Both have been highly praised for their singing skills and cute looks, attracting countless fans. 

2. Girls’ Generation mired in another love scandal
Taeyeon is the latest addition to join Girls’ Generation members who publicly revealed that they have a boyfriend. Since January this year, Yoona, Sooyoung, Tiffany and Hyoyeon have confirmed that they are dating someone after news broke of their romantic relationships. Now, nearly half the members of the popular girl group are in love.

EXO is a mega-hit boy group that might have long years ahead to enjoy its ever-growing popularity around the globe. That’s why some K-pop insiders are concerned that the latest news about Baekhyun dating Taeyeon could deal a blow to the popularity of EXO in Asia.
After debuting in 2012, EXO has shot to stardom in just two years with songs “Growl” and “Overdose,” expanding its fan base around the world. 

4. SM Entertainment’s first official couple
Baekhyun and Taeyeon are the first officially recognized couple from SM Entertainment, the largest entertainment label in Korea. There have been numerous love scandals involving SM artists and other stars, but it is the first time that both come from the same agency.

Earlier on Thursday, rumors surfaced that Taeyeon and Baekhyun had been dating for four months after Korean online entertainment news outlet Dispatch unveiled photos of the two in a car, supposedly on a date, that were taken around dawn near EXO’s home in Seoul. 

About three hours later, SM Entertainment confirmed the romantic relationship between the two young celebrities.

“They have been close as senior and junior, but recently they started to have feelings for each other. The relationship is in its early stages,” said an official from the agency.
