Kim Euong-yong, who has won a record 10 championships as a manager in South Korean baseball, was named Monday as the new manager of the Hanwha Eagles in the Korea Baseball Organization.

The Eagles said Kim has signed for two years with an annual salary of 300 million won ($270,000) plus a signing bonus of 300 million won.

Kim, 72, has won 10 Korean Series in the KBO with two different franchises -- nine with the Haitai Tigers between 1983 and 2000, and one with the Samsung Lions in 2002.

He has been to 11 Korean Series as a manager and lost only once, falling to the Hyundai Unicorns in 2004.

Following the 2004 season, Kim left the dugout and became president of the Lions. He was the first manager or head coach of a South Korean pro sports team to be named as president of the same organization.

With Kim in the front office, the Lions won back-to-back titles in 2005 and 2006.

In 22 seasons as a KBO manager, Kim amassed 1,463 wins in 2,653 games.
