Two British men were jailed Wednesday for blackmailing a leading actress using nude photographs found on a stolen laptop, according to the British media.

Southwark Crown Court sentenced 34-year-old Vernon Fevrier and his 35-year-old brother Lee to two years and 20 months in prison respectively for demanding £4,000 ($6,400) in exchange for the photos, but not before pointing out the clumsiness of the crime.

“You aren’t, frankly, any good at blackmail,” Judge Alastair McCreath told the criminals.

The Fevrier brothers came across the computer with the photos after it was stolen during a robbery of a firm in London in June.

Vernon, after finding 50 paparazzi photos in the laptop, attempted to sell the pictures to newspapers and magazines across the country.

When the plan did not work, he pretended to be a middle man for the person who stole the laptop and approached the publicist of the unnamed actress and asked for a “reward.”

When the publicist offered him £500, however, he demanded more money and threatened the publicist, saying the photos would be distributed over the Internet if he did not get the requested sum.

Vernon, with his older brother, requested that the memory stick containing the photos be exchanged for £4,000 at a fast food joint in central London on July 12. But Fevrier brothers got into an argument concerning how to carry out the exchange.

The two men, who were still on the phone with the publicist as they approached the restaurant, were soon tracked by police and apprehended.

Vernon Fevrier pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to blackmail, Lee admitted an identical charge and was jailed for 20 months.

유명 여배우, 누드사진으로 협박당해

주범인 버논은 노트북에 담겨있던 50장의 파파라치 사진들을 팔기 위해 영국 전역에 있는 신문사와 잡지사를 수소문했으나 성과를 거두지 못하자 여배우의 홍보담당자에게 직접 연락을 했다.

처음에 그는 홍보담당자에게 “단지 한잔 할 정도의 사례금만 원한다”고 했으나 담당자가 500파운드를 주겠다고 하자, 태도가 돌변해 돈을 더 주지 않으면 사진을 인터넷에 배포하겠노라고 협박했다.

버논은 그의 형과 함께 사진을 담은 메모리스틱을 런던 시내에 있는 한 패스트푸드점에서 돈과 교환하기로 결정했으나, 거래 직전에 이들은 거래방법을 놓고 다투기 시작했다.

결국 페브리에 형제는 이들을 감시하고 있던 경찰에 잡혔는데, 이들은 음식점에 가는 도중에도 계속해서 홍보담당자와 통화를 했다고 한다.

사건을 맡은 판사 알라스테르 맥크리스 씨는 판결을 내리기 전에 범인들에게 “솔직히 말해, 당신들은 협박에 전혀 소질이 없다”라고 지적했다.
