An animated series for kids by KBS TV has won the Best Animation Award at the Shanghai Television Festival, the broadcaster said Monday.

The animated program titled “Kioka” is aimed at a preschool audience. The series follows Kioka, a curious and confident girl who brings her imagination to life through a magical snow globe.

“The program does not follow a narrative structure. The characters are thrown into a given situation, and they cooperate, recognize one another’s ideas and skills, and are considerate of one another. The program teaches children not about ‘correct and incorrect,’ but about ‘differences,’” according to the festival’s home page. “The program is aimed at encouraging creative thinking.”

The Shanghai Television Festival, also known as the Shanghai International Television Festival, is the first and one of the largest Television festivals in East Asia. Held since 1986, STVF has become the most influential and prestigious international TV festival in Asia, strengthening cooperation and communication between the Chinese media industry and the world.

A total of 65 Chinese and international companies in the television industry participated in the four-day event organized by the Shanghai Media Group of China last week.
